BLD (Build) Functional Strength started as a passion project—rooted in a belief that training should improve the way you live.

We’re not just passionate about exercise—we’re focused on helping you build strength that carries into everyday life. To us, the gym is about more than workouts. It’s about building confidence, creating community, and developing a routine you can sustain.

Our goal is simple: help you move better, feel stronger, and stay consistent long-term. Every class is designed to meet you where you are, with thoughtful programming and modifications for all experience levels.

Meet the founder & Head coach

Fiona Dawson

Hi! I’m Fiona. I grew up very active, but spent a lot of time in physical therapy for various injuries. Strength training ultimately changed that for me—it helped me build resilience, move better, and stay active without pain.

While I originally planned to attend physical therapy school, tearing my ACL shifted my focus toward prevention. I became passionate about helping people build strength before injuries happen.

Since starting my coaching career in 2021, I’ve worked with clients ranging from ages 12 to 94. Through that experience, I saw a need for strength training to be more accessible and adaptable to different experience levels.

That idea led to the creation of BLD—a gym designed to bridge the gap between personal training and traditional group fitness. My goal is to create a space where anyone can build strength, confidence, and community while supporting an active lifestyle for the long term.

Bri Dawson

I’ve been involved in athletics for most of my life, competing as a Division I swimmer, where I learned the value of consistency, discipline, and showing up every day. After college, I stayed connected to the sport by coaching with BBST, which has been a rewarding way to help others grow both in and out of the water. At BLD, my focus is on creating a welcoming environment where people feel comfortable, supported, and confident in their movement—whether they’re just getting started or continuing their fitness journey.
